BEACH CLEANUP HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED TO MAY 17TH.
Our beach clean-up is scheduled for 5/10 at 10 am with a rain date of 5/17 at
10:00 am. We will have a load of sand delivered before the clean-up and if required,
rent a small tractor to spread the sand. Other volunteers can remove fallen tree branches
and limbs from around the property and trim back encroaching brush along the edges of
the property. The horseshoe pits can be raked out and some sand added also. If we
have some help, we can get the swimming area buoys and floats installed. Please
consider helping for an hour or so to help improve and keep the beach property in good
condition for all members to enjoy.
We could always use volunteers to help on the beach and road committees.
For questions regarding the beach and beach cleanup contact me at (860) 841-9529
As you are all aware we are having a major problem with the geese this year. We have gotten someone to work with her dogs at our beach to help alleviate some of this problem. Most likely you will never see them, they will come very early morning We are going to have 2 board members who have volunteered their time take turns going down as well very early morning and/or in the evening with their dogs to see if we can deter these geese. Please note this is NOT play time for the dogs they will be working and their owners WILL clean up after them if necessary. We are also getting pricing for a geese deterrent (e.g., a coyote that swings). More to follow on that.
Update 6/26/2024
On Wednesday, 6/26, boards members and the beach chairman attended the Inland Wetlands Meeting to submit the Associations proposal to replenish the beach sand and make improvements to control the storm runoff and future erosion. The IWA accepted the permit application but could not do anything more at this meeting. The Association will have to attend the July meeting to find out the results of the application. The town will review the application and may want to add to or change our plans before that meeting. If the permit is accepted at the July meeting the beach could potentially be replenished in early August.
As most of you are aware the terrible rainstorms we have had since last fall have completely washed the sand off our beach.
We had 2 loads of sand delivered, however before we could spread it we were made aware that we need a permit from Inland Wetlands Agency. Below it the contents of the letter we received.

Re: Notice of Violation – Beach sand deposition
Waterfront Heights Association Beach Parcel – Assessor ID #R05905
Dear Waterfront Heights Association Inc.,
The Inland Wetlands Agency at its May 22nd meeting was made aware of the deposition of two piles beach sand at the above subject property. Section 2.1.bb of the Coventry Inland Wetlands Regulations defines " ._ depositing or removing material and discharging of storm water on the land within the upland review area is a regulated activity.” it is noted here that regulations define the upland review area for Coventry Lake to be 150 feet from the 515.00 elevation of the Lake. Therefore, this sand deposition requires a wetlands permit. The IWA has thereby found you in violation and must cease and desist any further unpermitted regulated activities within the Upland Review Area of your parcel.
The IWA has requested the following action plan to resolve this violation:
A. Stake a sign in front of the mounds of sand that says it is not to be spread, pending approval from the Inland Wetlands Agency.
B. Apply for a Regulated Activity Permit.
C. Provide the specifications for the type of sand deposited and provide the quantity.
D. Consult with an expert in the field to determine whether your proposed activity will have any adverse impact on the Lake.
Waterfront Heights Association will be required to attend the IW/Us next regularly scheduled meeting on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. You should be prepared to discuss your activities and willingness to remedy the violation. Failure to attend (or have representation) at the meeting may require the IWA to initiate a more formal proceeding as allowed by the Regulations and State Statutes.
